Maybe this is the wrong place, but I have been usinf 56k USR modems for years. I fax a great number of documents every day. It is maddening. When I send a fax the system basically locks up for a little while. It may only be 40 seconds, but it drives me crazy because I can't work for that period. I don't have to complete the fax to get control back, but it seems to me that the fax must get past a certain command in the process to return control to me. Can anybody offer any suggestions?

I am using Winfax 9 now, but this problem has always existed even with earlier versions. I also have 512 Meg of RAM. Is this a siftware or hardware problem, or just the nature of the beast?

More info would be helpful:
What speed is your computer processor & what OS are you using? Is the USR modem an external or hardware-controller modem or a Winmodem?

The problem could also involve the Winfax software, or other system configuration matters; If your modem is a Winmodem, that may have something to do with it, but the bottom line is that the problem is not the modem alone....

I am using Windows 98, but I had the same problem on earlier Windows OS. The CPU is an Intel 450 MHz. The modems are both internal, both USR 56K and both voice. One is an ISA Sportster and the other is PCI OEM. But this problem existed consistently with other USR modems over the years.
