On my USR 56K External modem, when I click on diagnostics, one of the lines says ATI6 DAA failure. What does this mean? Installation went fine using the newest drivers, but when I try to connect, I get no dial tone, and the strange thing is, the dial up networking screen says "dialing", but naver gives me an error message, nor does it time out. I eventually have to hit cancel. The phone line is fine, and the same settings work with the internal Toshiba modem. Any ideas? Thanks!

DAA = data access arrangement and is used to refer to the circuitry that deals with the phone line (and the conversion of the analog phone line signal to a digital signal the computer can deal with.)

If the DAA is 'broke' - which is common after power surge/failure, and is more common with some newer modems that use solid-state vs. electro-mechanical off-hook control - the modem needs warranty repair or replacement.
