chuyser Tl Posts: 4 | Posted - 9/14/2000 3:22:38 PM I having a good deal of trouble getting my modem to work under Win98SE (it's working fine under Linux, and worked fine on my old Win95A box). When I first installed it, there was a resource conflict, so I changed a resource assignment on one of the other com ports to get rid of it -- now, no conflicts, and I still get "Port won't open" when I try diagnostics under the control panel. The modem is installed on com2 with IRQ3 and I/O 02F8 - 02FF. Linux is using the equivalent of com2 with no trouble. Right now, I'm using the USR56KPnP drivers that Win98SE chooses for it on hardware detection; I've also tried the drivers that came on the installation CD. Still no sign of land :-( Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Cindy |
malo Tl Posts: 7 Canada | Posted - 9/14/2000 7:32:07 PM You should try the new inf file for the 568703 modem available at usr.com. This inf file is working with windows 95, 98 and 2000. |
malo Tl Posts: 7 Canada | Posted - 9/14/2000 7:36:39 PM I forgot to give the name of the file, it is mdmusr01.inf |
chuyser Tl Posts: 4 | Posted - 9/15/2000 8:29:56 PM I tried your suggestion. Actually, got three different driver files -- mdmusr01, mdm3com, and 00568702 (the last one was a sort of desperate effort) -- but, alas, the problem remains. Any other thoughts would be appreciated. |
v.Richard Tl Posts: 6222 USA | Posted - 9/16/2000 12:15:35 PM How many other COM ports do you have? Is there a physical COM2 on your machine other than the modem? Is this a PCI modem? Aloha, |
chuyser Tl Posts: 4 | Posted - 9/16/2000 1:41:44 PM I'll give your suggestions a try. By the way, this is an ISA modem (and needs to be -- I don't have any free PCI slots at the moment). Thanks, Cindy |
chuyser Tl Posts: 4 | Posted - 9/16/2000 4:06:53 PM Problem finally resolved! In essence, this was a resource problem. I have two other com ports (depending on the time I rebooted, had the modem in/out, etc.) Com1 and Com3, or Com1 and Com4, etc. I decided that since the driver changes hadn't helped, and I'd started my installation with a resource conflict, that I should manipulate the resources for the com ports as I uninstalled/reinstalled the modem. In the end, there was a conflict with Com1 and the modem that Windows98 did not identify (attempting to share the same memory address). I had to choose different configurations for resources for the com ports, and in fact disabled Com4 to clear all conflicts. At last, the modem installed on Com3 and I was able to get on line with it. Thanks to all of you for your help and insights. Regards, Cindy Huyser |
