I need the power supply for the USR Sportster 56k external. Product code: 00568602.

It's supposed to be just a regular AC adapter
that can be bought at Radio Shack or anywhere.

Is that true?

It's regular in the sense that a different adapter with the same voltage and current ratings would work. You could ruin the modem if you use incorrect voltage (AC vs DC and/or level)

The Sportster 56K external specifies a 9.2V AC 1000ma adapter. On the one I am using right now, a USR model DV-9750-5 adapter, 9.2V AC, 700ma (for the Sportster 14.4K external) works just fine.

BE SURE YOU GET AN AC ADAPTER!!! The DC adapter used with most other external modems will fry the Sportster.

You may be able to retrofit your old Black & Decker 8.4V AC adapter. Radio Shack has a stubby 5.5mm o.d. female plug. I couldn't make it work, only because I'm clumsy with a soldering gun.
