I've just installed WindowsMe on my pc and transferred my modem from an old pc. The performance isn't quite as good, although my new pc specs are far superior to my old one. Can't figure it out. Nothing else has changed. When I do a diagnostic, the modem check say feedback loop - received signal from modem but expected more - can this be an issue which is slowing down the modem? Any ideas how to correct this?
Im getting a 45 or occasionally 49bps connection which is reasonable, but the throughput is slower now than before.
Any suggestions welcome
JJ

If you haven't timed and made accurate measurements of throghput before and after, I would suggest you do so that you can more fully evaluate your situation.

External modem: Unless you have an unusual RFI (interference) problem an external modem's connect speed (and in most cases performance) should be unaffected by what computer it is connected to.

Settings at the computer can affect the modem - including the PORT speed set for the modem; the UART buffering settings; error correction & compression settings, and more.

Richard
