I have an oem Us Robotics 56k voice int in a Hatachi Visionbook Pro 7590. Its id doesn't match anything on the usr website, so tech support won't help. I've done everything to get caller id to work to no avail (I do have caller id on the phone line and the modem is caller id capable). I've tried tapi programs, hypernet, etc and all the modem reports is RING. I've used AT#CID=1, 2 with AT#CLS=0, 8 but nothing works. I read of other USR users having the same problem, but haven't found the fix. Can anyone help?

My guess - the modem was mis-represented to you.
It really doesn't support caller id.

I would verify this using Hyperterminal before giving up.

Open Hyperterminal (available with most windows OS)
enter session name (whatever)
connect using port name (com2 for my modem)
set speed (all other settings are ok)
at cursor, type "AT#CID=1" (comment in quote only)
you should receive OK (otherwise the AT command is incorrect)
wait for a call
