manuel Tl Posts: 1 USA | Posted - 11/20/2000 1:12:52 AM i bought a 5610-01 modem a couple of weeks ago it intalled it into com 5. thats okay but when i download something the transfer rate starts high like at 20 but then goes down to like 3 or 4 k/s. when i use system monitor it says that im at 5k per sec. my question is that is windows limiting the rate because the baud rate for com5 is 9600 which i still dont know where to change if i can or is just that the numbers are wrong. Also when im online it has pauses in the connection then about 5 sec later it starts up again. this is really annoying when playing counter strike online.. any help will be grateful thx |

Browser throughput reports on downloads are not accurate - especially near the beginning as your system has pre-loaded & cached part of the file. If your port were only 9600 you would get a throughput of under 1K/B s. A PCI modem doesn't use a real com port so the baud rate setting for port speed is irrelevant. Pauses in games: speedshifts/retrains - You can eliminate them by slowing down your connection or disabling 56k Aloha, |
