I just replaced a CPU fan/ Windows 95 locked up so I ran restore disc. Reloaded 56 K winmodem disc. Have not been able to connect to AOL. I continue to get "Communications port invalid or busy" Can you help me. 222G71944595 00568301 R2 PC is an AST
Could i have damage modem with heat?

Remove all modems physically and in control panel->modems & in add/remove programs (if any) and start over with modem installation;

Windows may have installed support for the wrong modem before you 'installed' the modem.
