I have a user who uses an ISP to dial up and access Citrix apps via the Internet. He is using a USR Courier VEverything 56 v90 external modem. From day one he has experienced problems with disconnects. Some of them allow him to redial up, others ended up causing an error 633 and corrupting the dial up adapter. The modem diags indicate the modem is not correctly installed at this point and so it has to be removed and Windows 98 pnp reinstalls it. We initially replaced the corrupt tapi files as indicated in MS KB articles but it continued to happen. So we replaced the modem and the pc. The problem started up with the new box and again tapi corruption and no dial up adapter installed messages.

So process of elimintion leaves the ISP or phone lines. I have checked with the phone company, they have tested the lines and network in that area and give it a clean bill of health. The ISP says all is well and has suggested it may be current on the phone line. The interesting thing is that he can be dialed up for days just fine and then the disconnects just happen. The building he is in is new and recently built. I am at wits end any ideas are appreciated in advance.

Are all these apps using just standard browser? Do they use Java or other non-standard code at the client end?

The problem you describe may be caused by something other than the modem; What OS? What other apps/devices/drivers on the machine? Try cleaning up the machine by eliminating as many non-essential devices and software as possible, or re-install OS, devices; also check for driver updates for all system components including video, MB BIOS, etc.

Aloha,
Richard
