My USR model 3cp5610a modem connects only at 28.8 I went through all my computer settings with my ISP,everything is right.My computer is new running at 600mhz.I just paid $100 for the phone company to run a dedicated line that goes just into the computer.Nothing else on the line,and its a digital line,no noise.It is a pci modem,I checked for irq conflicts.there is none.
I dialed into my ISP other locations,and still only connected @ 28.8 Help! Is there anything I can do??

Well my telephone line is a regular telephone line,but
The phone company has installed fiber-optics in our area.If that makes it digital,I don't know.
The manual in on the CD rom,I didn't see anything in there about that.

Your phone lines may not be capable of 56k. You can line test through using the number 847-262-6000. It is long distance. usrname:line pass:test

Try it and see if the analog lines support 56k.

Also, what does your ATI11 command say? It should be over 45 or you may have a problem.

You can also check you modem properties under the modem icon in the control panel for the connection speed sttings. It should be at least 56700 but if it was changed to 28800 then that is what you will connect at. you could also add s32=2 to your extra settings in the advanced button that will set the modem to have v90 enabled for some strange reason it has been disabled.

The S32=2 did nothing.

Try going to start/run/ and type in sysedit. Find win.ini, then scroll down to where it shows something like :

[Ports]
LPT1:=
LPT2:=
LPT3:=
COM1:=9600,n,8,1,x
COM2:=9600,n,8,1,x
COM3:=9600,n,8,1,x
COM4:=9600,n,8,1,x
FILE:=

Change the settings for the port that your modem is on to 115200,n,8,1,x or change the x to a "p" however, recognize that the p is for software rather than hardware control.

Check for more than 1 a/d conversion
www.808news.com/56k/x2-adconversion.htm

If you fail here, forget 56k.
In many cases, digital fiber in the local loop will prevent 56k even without multiple a/d conversions;

If you get a double handshake your modem is trying but failing to achieve a 56k connect; if you don't hear the double handshake, your modem is not setup properly
www.808news.com/56k/trouble3.htm

However, if you do hear the double handshake - and will never get a 56k connect - you are best of disabling 56k in the modem (and will no longer attempt 56k or get double handshake).

A difference of 22 is very close to the undesirable 25;
basically, you've got a loss or rolloff of 22db between 3300 and 3750hz;
It is unlikely you'll get good 56k connects with any modem on this type of line.

Richard

I have been having the exact same issues with a 5605 external version of this crap modem. I've been looking for a good init string, to help me with counter strike. I'm going to post a new message soon, but uf you found ANYTHING on this, please let me know.
