| sweijare Tl Posts: 1 | Posted - 1/31/2001 10:41:10 PM    There was a password on my BIOS so I pulled the CMOS battery jumper to clear it out. Now I can only browse the internet for the first 2 or 3 minutes my computer is on. If its been off all night so its nice and cold then I can power up and connect to the internet at normal speeds and browse for about 2-3 minutes before it starts getting slower and slower and finally doesn't seem to download at all. If I disconnect and try to reconnect, it won't connect at all. I haven't changed any settings for the modem under Windows so the only thing that's changed has to be the BIOS. Does anyone know if there is a BIOS setting that controls the voltage or something for an ISA slot that could be causing my modem to overheat. I know it's not the modem because I got an identical model (USR 56K) and it did the same thing. Any suggestions or ideas would be a great help. Thanks! |
| v.Richard Tl Posts: 6222 USA | Posted - 2/4/2001 11:29:51 AM  No. However, when you remove the CMOS BIOS battery, your system will lose all of its configuration settings such as date/time, pci bus settings, port settings, etc; when you reboot, the system will attempt to detect and reset these settings, but if anything is wrong related to what you've done, it's most likely that the settings that are not being used are not correct for your system.
