v.Richard Tl Posts: 6222 USA | Posted - 2/4/2001 11:19:35 AM Look at modem diagnostics after you get disconnected for disconnect reason. www.808news.com/56k/diag3com.htm

Rodgebone Tl Posts: 3 USA | Posted - 2/7/2001 5:55:08 PM thanks for you reply Richard...ive looked at the diagnostics several different times with the same results....all values equal zero or none...and the reason always states "no connection"...what now? |
SARGE Tl Posts: 743 USA | Posted - 2/7/2001 7:37:55 PM On impulse, I'd say it's not modem. 2 things come to mind. One, ISP traffic is naturally heavier in evenings; I can ALWAYS tell when school lets out or when the 10pm news is over - ISP slows. The other is possible (seen it many times) where you have a faulty line getting wet at night, even from dew. Sun comes up, dries it out and all is good. Both would require some research with ISP and a call to telco. Have you listened to line at night? |

v.Richard Tl Posts: 6222 USA | Posted - 2/10/2001 8:28:45 AM If all values are 0 or none, your modem has been reset before you've viewed the diagnostics. This can happen if you don't set Hyperterminal up to connect directly to your modem (COM port) - see www.808news.com/56k/x2-hyperterm.htm The public phone network has been designed such that once you have made a connection, nothing in the phone network will cause it to be disconnected - a disconnect must come from you or the other end. Some ISPs use various parameters to intentionally disconnect their customers - usually after a certain amount of time, but some use additional conditions. The call can be unintentionally dropped by the ISPs equipment.... Aloha, |
