What happens when you let Windows detect it and select from a list? It should assign it a generic, etc and at least make it work.

Ya' know, dalton, I'm not for certain, but I think I had two of those Modems.

Have you tried this driver?
ftp://ftp.usr.com/oem/coyote/2975/2975-win9x.exe

When windows detects it, you may have to go to "Specify a Location for the Driver", and then "Display all drivers for all devices", go to "Modems", then click "Have Disk", input the location where you extracted the 2975-win9x.exe files, and click OK, then Click "Show All Hardware", then click Next. It may say, "This driver was not specifically designed for your hardware..." click Yes.

If you're using Windows Millennium, you may receive an unsigned device warning, and it will refuse to install. In that case, click "Advanced", then click "Warn when installing unsigned devices", then click OK.

Let me know if you get it working!

Thanks for the response. Thats the exact modem driver I ended up thinking was right, after downloading ALL of them. And yes, I did it that way. Windows sees it as a "PCI Communications Device" I then point it to the drivers and it installs and then CANT OPEN COMM PORT and still has yellow sign in device manager stating no conflicts but no driver. So I dont know.... Im using an old 14.4 now and its a breeze! FRUSTRATED

Hello Caper,
I used to modem installations full time. I usually had the best luck with the U.S. Robotics semi-specific drivers. First disable any external serial ports; set the modem's jumpers, if you have them, to PNP. If you haven't already, you might try, starting the installation process, then list all the possible drivers then selecting the USR driver that came with your version of Windows. From there scroll down to the USR models. Pick internal/external, fax, voice as appropriate. We have used several different USR modems, & that driver works for almost all of them.
If that doesn't work and you have jumpers, then you could try setting jumpers to com 2, IRQ 3, then installing a com port, ensuring that the OS puts it on
If you don't have jumpers or that still doesn't work, then you most likely have a defective modem. Other possibilities are a resource conflict, or defective ISA/PCI slot, (56k modems use the full ISA port, 14.4 modems only use the first 8 bits).
Good luck, I know it can be frustrating.
