I recently purchased a Courier V.34 Modem which I upgraded to V.90, and flashed with the latest F/W Rev. My gripe is that for one, the latest F/W release was in March, 1998, and secondly, my USR 5610A gets about 300 bytes/sec more than the Courier on the same connection rate. (Maybe that's because the 5610 was flashed in October, '99, and possesses the improved Line Probing technology.)

Now, I'm not saying that I'm dissatisfied with the Courier, but isn't it about time US Robotics released an update? I consider it sad that a consumer-level, $50 Modem like the 5610A outperforms the $249 Courier.

Oh yeah, US Robotics changed their statement on the "Inside USR" page. Before being altered, it included, "...And [USR] will lead the way with the new V.92 standard."

Where's my Courier V.92 update, USR?! :D

I expect that USR will - at some point - release a free V.92 upgrade for Courier modems.

Volor-

How did you get your Courier to be X2 enabled and operated at V.90 speeds without an enable key from 3Com/USR - they're no longer providing them. Please see the discussion at the "Courier V. Everything 33.6 X2 Upgrade - Need Help!" topic in the USR section of this site. Would appreicate your help.

No V.92 upgrade yet - but, after initially deciding not to do V.92 for older Couriers, USR has had a change of heart and it will be "soon". ("Soon" to USR is "sometime" - they promised V.92 for other models in March as being "soon", and "soon" still hasn't arrived.)

Aloha,
Richard
