I have a customer that purchased an external USR on my recommendation. I presently use MultiTech Commplete Senior RAS equipment.
It seems this particular modem disconnects on an irregular basis. Firmware is 5.11.0. I loaned the customer my old reliable (USR 56K F/W 4.6.6) and it will run all night if you want it.
1. Can older firmware still be found
2. Any upgrade from 5.11.0 to help this modem out?

What speed does modem connect at?
Is your Multitech equipment 56k-capable?
Have you tried disabling 56k on the new USR?

The Lucents all connect very nicely to the MultiTech. I have disabled V90 and it will stay connected, but with the older USR firmware V90 works great. That's what buggin' me. I since have another customer that cannot connect even with V90 disabled. I had the customer dial into another ISP that uses 3Com Total Control and it connects wonderfully.

Unfortunately, USR doesn't normally provide older firmware for its modems.
If you try hard enough (and assuming there is an older version available), you may be able to get USR support to provide you with older .dmf file.
Because USR constantly changes models/sub-model codes, and compiles firmware for each model, it doesn't make all versions for all models. Unfortunately, this can introduce incompatibilities that you see with certain combinations of client/server modems and line conditions.
[If you do decide to contact USR support, it will be long and frustrating, because you need to get beyond first level support.]
