I have a usr model 0637(s98238801) that installs, but won't assign a com port. No conflicts, no errors, no messages. When you try to open properties in devices it won't open.I guess because no com port is assigned. This is the second modem I've tried. The first one, usr model 0460(21ne25227ra5L) installs, but is in conflict. In control panel it gives a second modem icon titled "sportster 56k winmodem". In devices it is listed in modems and in ports with the port listing in conflict(irq). When you try to open the second icon in control panel it says that corrupted data has been found and it has been cleared. This clearing removes the modem totally except for the listing in ports. The conflict in the irq setting should be ok as it is not being used by any other device.
HELP PLEASE!!!!!

You need to remove all modems in Windows Control Panel (add/remove programs and Modems); Shut down
Remove all modems physically from computer.

Reboot. Make sure no modem info shows anywhere.

[re-install trying another PCI slot]
