Chris Gross Tl Posts: 2 | Posted - 2/11/2001 6:40:04 PM Im using an OEM USR 56k FAX PCI (code 2977) which had run fine in my system for months, with fairly fast, stable connects (45-50k on average). For the past few months however, Ive been experiencing near constant retrains (I seem to average 1 every 2 min sometimes). Ive tried lowering my connect speed, down to 28.8 even, which seems to end "Retrains Requested", but I still get a high number of "Retrains Granted". Im not sure the exact time when my trouble happened, but the telco did install a new switchboard a while back, and I did have an incident where a power surge fried my power supply and motherboard (though all my cards seemed unaffected...not sure about the modem anymore though). I did have a telco repairman come out to check my lines, but Im not sure he did anything other than pick up my phone, put it to his ear, and say "yeah, sounds fine, must be your machine, bye". ATI6I11Y11 results follow, for three different connect speeds. Can anyone with more knowledge than I give an opinion as to my problem?

Try to isolate: Try calling other ISP #s www.808news.com/56k/trouble1.htm www.808news.com/56k/trouble4.htm www.808news.com/56k/demarc.htm If you could borrow another [preferrably USR-external] modem, try it.
