hi

i have a USR 3com Message Modem External 56k, model no=5668.
under win9x and NT4 no probs.
under 2k and its so slow! webpages time out no matter which one it is. Downloads start at 500BYTES/s! but usually time out at 1KB of downloading.
3coms website say to use win2k's own drivers which i am. but no luck. tried NT4s too but nothing. so anyone help?
been at this problem ever since win2k came out and no one has had a solution.

Thanks akash

btw port speeds 115200 :)
the connection itself is 45.2 just the internet performance is... ouch!

My guess is that this is not related to the modem at all, but to Win2k networking setup/bindings; I would suggest examining these settings.

Aloha,
Richard

thanks for getting back,
being a newbie on 2k, could you guide me through it please?
a friend sent me a driver and i installed it. i then out of the blue decided to check the port speed again and noticed it was 75. changed to 57000 and its MUCH better however there is STILL lack of speed.
its not THAT important anymore but i would like it to be sorted. also noticed i get disconnected quite frequently at various times.

Did you check the port speed in both the modem settings and the DUN properties? They can differ.

yup sure did hehe.
port dun and the modem settings all say 56200 (or 115200 whatever i have set it to at the time)
i was given a driver however that set the port speed to 75.. setting that to 57200 it works nicely however if for example i am downloading, that download will suck the whole bandwith up and i wont even be able to load a page!
this never happens in NT and 9x. any ideas here?
