I'm having problems with my connection. I stalls and no bytes are sent or received for about 1 minute, but it changes and sometimes is only about 15 seconds. I've gone a year without any problems but then all of a sudden it started. Nothing was changed with my ISP or with the phone line here.
Could this be a problem with my modem or maybe with my line service? I have a USR Sporster interal voice #83174901.
Any help?

Tried using tracert to ping? Start with your ISP. Your lines could have gotten a tad defective, causing data to have to be resent. To check things out, in extra settings under modem properties, type s32=98

This will give a v34 speed, but if flow improves, you can force a max speed in 56k. Experiment.

Thanks for the info. Duh! I never even thought of pinging or tracert. I just did a 100 count ping to my ISP and received 13% packet loss.
My ping time average was 100 ms.
Sound like phone line, right?

A long shot, but in network, dial up adapter, properties, advanced, set IP packet size to Large, then Small and experiment.

If data flowed better with the s32=98, it's obvious your original speed may/probably is too fast, causing errors that have to be resent. Go back to original with no extra settings. Stay online 10-15 minutes and log off. Using Hyperterminal to check stats from last call, type ati6 and note "blers". These are errors that slow you down.

To limit speed, in extra settings, type &u17&n28
That forces a max speed of 42. Experiment with the &n by using 28, 26, or 24. Richard's site has valuable info on using and interpreting USR data.
