Hi,

I have a Dell Pentium III PC. The USRobotics modem died that it came with, so I bought a new one, a USRobotics Internet Call Modem, model #5695. Installed it fine. Got dialtone, connected to my ISP.

However....

1. I cannot access email with Eudora 5, and

2.I get error messages when I try to access any webpages with Netscape or Internet Explorer (states the webpage doesn't exist, which isn't true.)

The error message I get with Eudora 5 is:

Error getting network address for "pop3.myserver.net"
Cause: host not found [11001]

Eudora's advice and USR's advice is that my ISP settings probably aren't correct. Makes no sense to me since they worked fine until I installed the new modem. I did check them again to make sure, though.

I figure there must be some settings somewhere to adjust. I've rechecked everything and I'm going cross-eyed. I'm hoping you can help me and have the magic answer. I build web sites for a living and need my connection back right away. (the laptop I'm on to write this doesn't have my work on it.)

Thanks!

The setup of DUNS and/or the individual programs connection properties.

Create a NEW DUNS connection for your ISP with the proper modem selected.
If you did not uninstall the old modem, or properly install the new one, you may have problem.

If you still can't find it, uninstall all modems and start over - pay attention to what modem is named and what modem is specified for your DUNs connections.

Aloha,

I dunno if this will work, since this is a shot in the dark...
Do you have any web-filtering software installed in your computer? Software that 'filters' adds, or controls how much time is allocated for your children to use the internet. Even certain anti-virus programs have internet-activity monitoring software, e.g. VirusScan and (I think) PC-Cillin (is that how you spell it? [:p]).
Anyway, if you have any kind of software like I mentioned above, try uninstalling them. These things seem to screw up your connections for some reason. I experienced problems like you sometime ago, and went almost nuts trying to trace the source of the problem.
Well, hope this helps. Good luck.

If it is just a network connectivity thing you should be checking with your ISP. Perhaps their server is down? In that case you could be getting an IP address and be able to ping both the IP and the DNS addresses but not be able to connect to a particular TCP/IP port using either an IP address or a domain name.
