Recently, my modem seems like trying to use the phoneline within 60 secs. sounds weird but if I plugged the phoneline between computer and wall outlet, after 60 secs. the line goes dead(the full houses'phone lost dialtone). so if I want to access internet, I have to unplug the phoneline and plug in in order to get a dialtone, and hurry up dial my ISP, seems I am trying to use the phoneline first before the modem do. the rest time I just leave the line unpluged, so that other regular phone got a dialtone and can dial out or receive calls. strange problem, I know nobody keep plugging and unplugging the computer phoneline. so where do I go ask my modem not using the line. Thank u. |

jelin Tl Posts: 5 USA | Posted - 5/20/2000 8:48:52 PM Hi, my modem is "Creative Modem Blaster Flash56 PCI DI5630". also, I just found out that even when I turned the computer's power off, the modem is still trying "take over" the line. So, how do I check it(the modem) out if it is defective, and what can I do if it does. Edited by - jelin on 5/20/00 8:57:57 PM |
v.Richard Tl Posts: 6222 USA | Posted - 5/21/2000 2:17:45 PM Try a different phone cord between your modem and the wall jack. Unplug the modem from the wall jack and plug a phone in - check that phone & any others to see everything works properly. With the computer off, and the line cord to the wall jack pluged in at the wall but not the computer, plug it in to the modem. If the modem grabs the line, it's bad. Oh, and make sure that either Aloha, |
jelin Tl Posts: 5 USA | Posted - 5/25/2000 7:43:48 AM Hi, I have tried different ways, but seems only when the phonecore plug to the modem, the modem will grab the line and not hanging up. that makes phones in the other room lost sinal. and if I just unplug modem from wall jack, and plug a phone in the same wall jack, everything just works fine. so, do u think the modem can be upgraded |
v.Richard Tl Posts: 6222 USA | Posted - 5/25/2000 3:28:04 PM I think you modem is defective. Broken. No good. It may be under warranty? Aloha, |
jelin Tl Posts: 5 USA | Posted - 5/25/2000 9:15:14 PM Hi: I don't think the modem is broken, because if I dial to the ISP within 30 sec. I can still get connected and use the modem without any problem. so, do u think is there any other way, or some setting goes wrong. or do I need to update the modem. thank u for ur time. |
v.Richard Tl Posts: 6222 USA | Posted - 5/29/2000 10:26:16 AM If you had a phone that worked, except that when you hung it up, it wouldn't hang up - you had to unplug the cord to the jack - wouldn't you call the phone 'broken'? Whatever you'd call it, that's what your modem is and you should get it replaced under warranty. Aloha, |
