ive got a strange one.
I installed a usr 56k faxmodem on a dell system. The installation went fine, and i used the drivers from the cab files. When I rebooted the puter, windows couldnt detect the modem. It was still listed, but diagnostics coulod not get a response either. I removed it and reinstalled it and it worked fine again. Rebooted and the same problem as last time occurred. It also says that there is a hardware conflict. I installed it in another isa slot and had the same problem. I changed irq's from 3 to 4, same problem. There is nothing else using these irq's, but i keep getting the conflict issue. I reinstalled it once again and checked the device manager. I noticed that this time, the modem was fine, but the token ring card was down. I uninstalled the modem and the token ring was back up. I reinstalled it and this time, they both worked. I rebooted and the modem was down again with the irq prob. I checked the system info and the token card is using irq 10 like it is supposed to. I reinstalled it once again using the usr cd drivers, and it wouldnt install properly. It kept installing the pnp mode. I dont know if the fact that im using the pnp drivers are causing some sort of conflict. The token card is needed to use the as400 system and the modem works fine as long as i dont shut the machine off. Spent 3 hours on this one today. Any ideas would be most appreciated.
Thanks a bunch
Kevin

What kind of USR modem? Internal ISA winmodem or h/w contoller?

Try removing all networking, modem and DUNs components software and hardware.

Install modem.
Check operation/reboot/operation.

Install DUNs networking.
Check operation.

Install network card.
Check/set bindings, protocols.

Check operation.

Richard
