dusthazard Tl Posts: 88 USA | Posted - 4/7/2001 10:28:48 PM I need help please. This modem connects commonly around 45333 plus or minus a little bit. BUT, after some while after operations, my whole system "sticks" some. I mean, for example, I use my internet with the modem and after a while, the mouse moves, but you can't click on anything like links or something. And then, the system will go into operation again for like a few seconds and then hang for like 5 seconds. What is my problem? When I stop using the modem during a session, the system reverts back to its normal operation/speed, whatever. This is confusing. Thank you very much for your time. Have a nice day! |

Limiting connect speed may prevent retrains and reduce errors www.808news.com/56k/diag3com.htm www.808news.com/56k/x2-linklimit.htm Do you have LAN card installed? This can interfere with dial-up connection if not set up properly - even if you are not connected to a network. Aloha, |
dusthazard Tl Posts: 88 USA | Posted - 4/8/2001 3:59:50 PM There are no retrains or errors. Well, errors that should be significant I think. I don't have a LAN card. I have the latest driver from USR. I expect this to be some kind of drivers problem. Altrough, I don't know why there would be a driver problem since the modem has been around for quite a while, right? |
SARGE Tl Posts: 743 USA | Posted - 4/8/2001 4:35:42 PM And the browser is... |
dusthazard Tl Posts: 88 USA | Posted - 4/8/2001 5:53:33 PM This occurs with both IE 5.0 and 5.5. The slowdown occurs only when there is data flow, it seems. I don't really suspect my browser. |

Try another PCI slot for modem or create add'l h/w profile and disable everything you can other than modem is that profile & use it to boot to see if the problem goes away; then, re-enable devices 1 by 1 to see where conflict occurs. Aloha, |
SARGE Tl Posts: 743 USA | Posted - 4/10/2001 2:23:37 PM Is there anything else running in background, i.e., virus scanner? You can hit ctrl alt del and "end task" on everything but Explorer and RNAAPP and see if it improves. |
dusthazard Tl Posts: 88 USA | Posted - 4/10/2001 5:59:52 PM I have no printer, USB devices or scanners. I keep nothing running in the background because I like total pure speed. =) The problem occurs in two of my PCI ports so far. Disabling my devices seems to be a long, exhausting process. Windows indicates that there are no conflicts. This is a fresh install of Windows 98 SE using a OEM disk files. (This is a HP computer. If you have one, you know how Win98SE cab files are included right on the hard drive. I had to burn them to a separete CD to do a fresh install.) |
