SARGE Tl Posts: 743 USA | Posted - 4/9/2001 9:11:41 PM You've learned a hard lesson. Never flash for sake of flashing/upgrading. This applies to modems and BIOS. Only place you can get help with USR flash is USR. Mine (v92 external, new) works great, even though ISP is still v90. I have an older USR 56k that I'll never flash to v92. See if your ISP has another #, or dial other #'s using Hyperterminal. http://808news.com/56k/trouble4.htm It's a long shot at best... |
Nanotek Tl Posts: 5 USA | Posted - 4/9/2001 10:41:36 PM I tried most of the numbers, same results. Dang, I REALLY learned a hard lesson. Wasted $70 on this modem just to get it flashed from V.90 to V.92 because I was looking for a cheap Call-Waiting modem with V.92 standards when I could have saved up a little more for a true USR V.92 modem, plus the Call-Waiting feature doesn't work, lol! But anyways, what is the difference between the two, they are both V.92, is the hardware a little different in the true USR V.92 modem? I want to make sure that I get a V.90 connection with Call-Waiting feature if I buy that true USR V.92 modem. So far I'm relying on my old Rockwell HCF winmodem for V.90 connection, 45-49k. |
v.Richard Tl Posts: 6222 USA | Posted - 4/10/2001 8:39:35 AM There is no difference between a 5686-03 and a 5686-D except that one is packaged as a V.92 modem, and the other as V.90 upgradeable to V.92; they are otherwise the same, and you should get the same poor performance from a 5686-D as you get from the 5686-03 with the V.92 flash. Nanotek Tl Posts: 5 USA | Posted - 4/10/2001 10:07:18 AM Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. I guess I'll have to wait for them to release another firmware, but that won't be for a while since they have a huge list to release firmwares for. I'll cross 5686-D off my list. And Zoom V.92 doesn't seem good since you don't like it yourself. Gonna wait for another V.92 brand to come out, maybe Supra (great modem!). |
