v.Richard Tl Posts: 6222 USA | Posted - 4/19/2001 10:40:26 AM What's the response from ati7 ? (You have a modem made by USR; however, if it is an OEM model, the OEM is responsible for support) Aloha, |
beremisac Tl Posts: 11 | Posted - 4/19/2001 11:42:42 AM Is ATI 7 the response that indicates the mhz? (I'm asking now because I'm not at the machine where the modem is installed). Anyhow, if ATI 7 is the response that queeries voltage mine is = 92 I installed this modem last PM and windows detected it as a "SPORTSER 56000" and then the usual PNP process occured, however, none of the drivers that I selected from both USR or 3com seemed to be the correct driver.... I always got the windows message that the driver I selected was not specifically made for the modem... I think I used a USR 56000 internal driver and that driver works but connects are only in the low 30's....Again, even though I was able to install and use that driver I do not believe it is the correct one because of the persitant low speeds.
The support site calls this modem an "AKITA" modem... When I first booted and windows PNP'D It identified the modem as a "SPORTSTER 56000" - No mention of any AKITA... I plan on downloading the driver from that site and "updating" the driver through windows... We'll see if I get that message from windows about the driver I selected is not specifically for this device... Even if that happens I'll try the driver and see what the connects are like. I'm tempted to say that if the driver works that I will try the firmware X2 to V90 update.... We'll see and I'll post my results... I want to keep this modem around as I believe it is a hardware modem - It's jumperable and is a ISA card... |
v.Richard Tl Posts: 6222 USA | Posted - 4/19/2001 4:01:25 PM ati7 tells firmware version as well as model; If you have Winmodem, driver = firmware; if you have flash modem, you will need to flash the modem in order to get V.90; USR's website has limited support (you need the model # from ati7) for OEM modems, but does have some flash upgrades. www.usr.com Aloha, |

The flash worked- handshake is audibly much different and connect speed/throughput much better... Only problem is now I get a reported connect speed of 115k. The reason I wanted to try and flash this modem was to use it in a Linux box. Looks like I am one step closer to that now. |
SARGE Tl Posts: 743 USA | Posted - 4/19/2001 9:08:49 PM Having correct .inf file should report correct speed (not 115k). However, try &f1 or w2 in extra settings under modem properties. |
v.Richard Tl Posts: 6222 USA | Posted - 4/24/2001 9:09:32 AM 115.2k connect report - see www.808news.com/56k/x2-inf1.htm Modemlog will always show the 'real' speed (with USR modem) Aloha, |
beremisac Tl Posts: 11 | Posted - 4/24/2001 10:40:12 AM Latest update...
Now I just have to move it into my linux box and get it working there. Thanks all. |
