From: http://808hi.com/56K/v92s.htm

" This would mean that if you previously could get a 52k V.90 connection, you would be able to get 44k ..."

This is exactly as I see it when comparing a
V.90 USR sportster against a V.92 USR sportster;
both talking V.90

Is this just coincidence? Or is the present USR
V.92 code not very mature?

Are V.92 modems seeing V.92 penalties
when running in V.90 mode

is how the summary was supposed to come out.

Since there are no V.92 servers that presently support PCM upstream, (in fact, you are probably not even connecting to a V.92 server), and change in performance is due to a different implementation of V.90 downstream; a further reduction in speed would be expected using V.92 PCM upstream when/if it becomes available. The change in PCM downstream performance will vary depending upon telco network conditions and the type and firmware level of modems at your ISP.

Richard

All the more reason to hold back on V.92
(indeed my ISP server is V.90)
