I have a Packard Bell PB 610 system. Has a USR 56k Winmodem on board. Modem is installed on Com3. When I go to Control-Panel, Modems, diagnostics, Windows tells me "Couldn't open port" error.
Control Panel-System tells me the modem is installed correctly, with no problems.
Anyone have any ideas?

yea, id say take the modem out, boot up your computer,remove all modems from control panel,shut down & put the modem back in ,reboot & try to install it fresh.if that doesnt work you better post back here cause im not an expert. L8r

Yah, I have uninstalled and resinstalled several times, it still does the same thing. Any other suggestions?
