Hi, I have a Sportster 56k internal modem. Prod ID
32178700.

For the past 2 years I've had no trouble connecting
to my ISP at 56k. But recently I've only been
connecting at 31.2-33.6.

My ISP told me they have replaced all X2 modems with
v.90 modems and I should get my modem updated. This
would also explain why I was connecting at 31.2-33.6
to various other ISP's.

My question is, should I flash my modem? I downloaded
the Modem Update Wizard and it says it supports my
modem. However, I've read stories about bad flashes
and lost modems.

Thank you for your advice.

If ati7 doesn't indicate V.90 support, you should flash your modem.

Thanks, I managed to find the correct version of Modem Update Wizard from the USR russian support site.
The program updated my modem to v.90 and now I'm cruising at 56k.
