Xenon Tl Posts: 15 USA | Posted - 6/19/2001 4:02:02 PM I recently purchased a 3com performance pro modem. product id. 00561001 model no. 5610. Approximately every 5 minutes my connection will stall for several seconds. This makes online play near impossible. I use earthlink and verio as my isp's. I've tried every driver I could get my hands on and even tried throttling back the connection as low as 28000, also for some reason the gmtray does not throttle back connection as it should. It connects at 50666 everytime, without fail and download speeds are good. Any ideas or suggestions are greatly appreciated. Btw, how do I contact 3com support without a long distance phone call? I am really getting frustrated with this modem. Xenon |
v.Richard Tl Posts: 6222 USA | Posted - 6/19/2001 6:37:40 PM USR - not 3Com - is now responsible for the modem; You would call USR for support, and they don't have a toll-free #. As to your performance problem it would be helpful if you post results from ati6i11y11 after a 56k and V.34 ISP/gaming session. Xenon Tl Posts: 15 USA | Posted - 6/19/2001 8:37:11 PM Where do I put that command? I tried putting it in extra settings from modem properties, but once I do that my modem doesn't respond. The modem is also on com 5 and that choice isn't given in hyperterminal, just com1-4 and the modem. |
SARGE Tl Posts: 743 USA | Posted - 6/19/2001 9:28:09 PM Select the modem; I never select Com Port. |
v.Richard Tl Posts: 6222 USA | Posted - 6/21/2001 8:59:29 AM You can't use those diagnostic commands in extra settings; The COM5 should also be aliased to COM4 - so if you select COM4 in Hyperterminal, it should connect to modem. Aloha, |

Xenon Tl Posts: 15 USA | Posted - 6/22/2001 8:02:54 PM Ok problem solved...I guess :/. Throttled all the way back to 26400 and had a relatively lag free gaming session. I didn't think I would have to go that low. Here are the results... U.S. Robotics 56K FAX INT Link Diagnostics... timoch Tl Posts: 16 | Posted - 6/23/2001 5:28:56 AM My connection @56k (USR Sportster flashed to v90) got dropped frequently too, but I learned from this forum to add s10=60 to my ini string. So far so good. |
v.Richard Tl Posts: 6222 USA | Posted - 6/24/2001 10:29:56 AM Notice the retrains (2/1) on the 56k connects - retrains = 0.0bps throughput for 15-20 seconds or so; The other diags would indicate a pretty good line; If it were me, I would want to try other ISPs to see if the poor 56k performance improves when dialing other #s. www.808news.com/56k/trouble4.htm

derangedlunatech Tl Posts: 10 | Posted - 6/27/2001 2:02:42 PM One of your problems may be the SNR report from your ATI11. SNR=Signal To Noise Ratio - basically only 40% of what the modem is hearing it can identify as signal. You have some pretty dirty lines - anything below 50 on the SNR and you can experience problems, from my experience. This would be confirmed by your increased prolems during rain. Maybe try a phone line noise filter? It's hit or miss, sometimes it helps, sometimes it doesn't... |
