bloom Tl Posts: 1 | Posted - 7/2/2001 6:38:11 PM To make a long story short I purchased an older sportster modem (model 001786-02). I'm replacing a lucent winmodem, as windows 2000 doesn't like it much. (Using the 6.00 drivers.) It drops connections like mad, and there is a substantial cpu hit. Unfortunately this new modem will never attempt to connect using v.90. The winmodem did. The problem I'm having is that the new sportster (external) has the 4.91 firmware. I know there is a 5.00 available. When I try to run the upgrade wizard it hangs as soon as it dials the first number for my ISP. I then have to end the task. I've tried two different upgrade wizard versions now, and both hang as soon as the port opens and the first digit is dialed. (Sounds like it hangs up.) How can I get the 5.00 firmware if the update wizard won't work? Also, is this the reason I'm not getting a 56k connect. Is there perhaps a string that should be entered to get it to attempt a v.90 connect first?
Thanks for the help!

To upgrade the modem - I would suggest connecting it to a Win9x PC to run the upgrade wizard. Aloha, |
