john payne Tl Posts: 31 USA | Posted - 7/4/2001 10:31:26 AM Line is clean when using phone, but will not connect When trying to connect during rain & thunder the modem pops and cracks, then tries to retrain over and over. I thought it may be built in to keep user off the net during lighting. But sometime it may thunder and rain all day without any lighting. yes it dails, but modem pops then modem does know what hand shake this is.

SARGE Tl Posts: 743 USA | Posted - 7/5/2001 7:03:42 PM Some possibles. Modems can be more "sensitive" to adverse line conditions than your own ears. If you're having problems in wet weather, check the obvious first. Are any of your lines run around the side of the house? If so, visually check every inch for any frayed or damaged areas. I see this regularly. If this doesn't apply, then obviously the problem is in the telco lines. When telco runs a test on a sunny day, everything is ok. They need to run it when raining, which means you need to call 'em at that time, from a different line, so they can test an idle line. Besides the above possible, a regular culprit is where your line attaches to the pole. Squirrels love to chomp on the hard rubber, exposing the copper to the elements. OK on a sunny day, but rain causes havoc. Edited by - SARGE on 7/5/01 7:06:12 PM |
