Otho Tl Posts: 12 USA | Posted - 7/29/2001 8:54:17 AM My provider has been having a problem and thief lines for tech support are being answered with a recording. Until they solve thief current problem, no support it available. Thief problem is with thief e-mail program and supposedly not a connection problem. Anyway my e-mail is working fine but I get disconnected every 19 minutes and 56 or 57 seconds. Is there a modem string that would or should stop this problem? My current string is AT&F1m0 and my modem is a USR Sportster that has been flashed and upgraded to V90. Thank you for any help. Jerry |

See http://modemsite.com/56k/x2-hyperterm.htm for setting up Hyperterminal. And http://modemsite.com/56k/diag3com.htm for interpreting the ati6i11 data. Might also post a modem log. |
Otho Tl Posts: 12 USA | Posted - 7/29/2001 1:23:44 PM It isn't set to disconnect after any given time of inactivity. In fact I am using Connection Keeper, it is suppose to query different sites at random intervals to maintain connection. It will disconnect while down loading a web page. Here is a copy of log during last disconnect. I am sure that my provider is causing the disconnect but thought perhaps there may be a string that would stop this. 07-29-2001 13:43:14.05 - U.S. Robotics 56K Voice INT PnP in use. |
Bob Starnes Tl Posts: 4360 USA | Posted - 7/29/2001 3:59:10 PM 07-29-2001 13:43:40.16 - Error-control on. 07-29-2001 13:43:40.16 - Data compression off or unknown. The above is a result of the &F in the Extra Settings. 07-29-2001 14:03:45.50 - Remote modem hung up. "Remote modem hung up" means the ISP's modem disconnected you. Ok, remove the &F from the Extra Settings and then try a connection for at least 30 mins or until disconnected, then disconnect and use Hyperterminal to get the ati6i11 data and post that here.

Otho Tl Posts: 12 USA | Posted - 7/30/2001 9:17:18 AM I removed the &F from the string and it made no difference in the disconnecting. I went to the site for Hyperterminal and when following the instructions to install, it isn't listed under my Start menu at Start/Programs/Accessories or under Communications. I am not well versed in this field, more direction is needed. Thank you, Jerry |
Bob Starnes Tl Posts: 4360 USA | Posted - 7/30/2001 12:33:30 PM Click Start, Settings, Control Panel, double click Add/Remove Programs, select the 'Windows Setup' tab, highlight 'Communications', click the 'Details' button, check 'Hyperterminal' and click OK. Have your Windows CD ready. |
Otho Tl Posts: 12 USA | Posted - 7/31/2001 10:43:16 AM Bob, I installed Hyperterminal as per your instructions and was having difficulties getting it to share with modem. One or the other would connect but not both. I went on line until disconnected then tried to open and run Hyperterminal but to no avail. I guess that I am not understanding the instructions properly. Age does that, us old timers have problems that way. Anyway, in desperation I tried calling tech support again and got a live person. She informed me that they were experiencing problems and fully expected to have everything fixed within the hour. This has been going on for two days and it wasn't fixed 5 hours later. I dropped my subscription with them (CSWNet or CenTel) and found a new provider. No more problems, I want to thank you for your help and consideration. Thanks, Jerry |
Bob Starnes Tl Posts: 4360 USA | Posted - 7/31/2001 4:45:36 PM Ok Jerry, I understand about ISP problems, mine's been messing up the last couple of weeks. I sat here yesterday morning listening to my connection (M2 in the Extra Settings, speaker on all the time) and my modem kept retraining about every 45 sec. to 1 min. Disconnected picked up the phone and it was clear as could be, no noise or anything so it had to be the ISPs modem doing the retraining. They've been "upgrading" but it seems that they're downgrading... Oh, Hyperterminal and DUN can't be used at the same time, generally to check the post call data you first disconnect from the internet, or if disconnected don't let the modem reconnect, and then start Hyperterminal and issue the ati6i11 command to get the results of the previous call. |
Otho Tl Posts: 12 USA | Posted - 7/31/2001 5:57:12 PM I think I see why I wasn't getting any response, I had the command wrong. I was entering at6i11, not ati6i11. Thanks again Bob, Jerry |
Bob Starnes Tl Posts: 4360 USA | Posted - 7/31/2001 8:18:39 PM My pleasure to be of assistance. Good luck with the new ISP. |
