i believe that my USR 5686 got zapped by lightning.
its about 2 years old. will they warranty it ?
any info/tips appreciated

AFAIK they will.
It's under warranty - the warranty doesn't have an exclusion for lightning does it?
I would suggest you do not volunteer that you think it may be due to lightning.

I looked at several of my USR warranties - most of them do have lightening exclusions.
