When I connect to the internet tcp/ip, and go to a particular site, sometimes (like 50% of the time) the two lights in the taskbar will not blink; won't even attempt to connect to the site....and then about anywhere from 30 secs to 3 minutes later, it will connect to the site. Basically, there is no problem connecting, but the modem will just sit there without sending or receiving bytes when a web page is requested. This problem happens with both Netscape and IE. I have a dialup 56K USR Fax PCI 2977 OEM modem and I have the most up-to-date modem driver. Lowering the amount of disk space for cache in IE seems to help a little bit, but not much. Any solutions?

Does this anytime of day? What is connect speed? Does it happen on ALL sites?

I'd start by emptying all cache files and cookies, if haven't already. Then, I'm not familiar with WinME, but wouldn't hurt to check the settings:

If it's just that one site then I'd think it was a problem with that server, not your computer.

The problem doesn't just happen with one site... it's for any site. My problem is not unique; there are others who have encountered the same modem lag.

When you run a tracert to the server while experiencing this, where does it show the latency?

Yeah, I was gonna suggest tracert, but didn't know if slowdown was on just 1 site, or all.

I have Windows ME and I do have a network card installed. Should I disable it?
