above is from the connection log but not for the one below i don't think. I usually don't use that extra init, usually just use AT&F1M0

This output from modemChk I don't know why it don't show staus but this is my normal experience all weekend long. connect at v.90 or v.34 then downshift to lower speed within a few miutes then disconnect. I tried several differnt pops thru Hyperterminal and several free ISP numbers and mtu tweaks and I always get same result day and night and I already had a tech check my lines a week ago and he said he did some rewiring by the box. So I don't know what else to do other then try a different modem, which i don't have.

SNR (Signal to Noise Ratio) is quite low, lower number not good, higher numbers better.

This and the Disconnect Reason would lead me to believe that you have a phone line problem.

Might try the modem on a different known good 56k line to see if you get a better, more stable connection. If so then the phone line is your problem, if not then there may be a problem with the modem.

Might also try removing all other phones and phone line devices from the same line that the modem in on and try a connection with only the modem using the line to see if you can connect any differently.

What are responses for aty11 after a session, or during, using Hyperterminal to make the call?

heres from my last call it connected at 44,000 bps and I disconnected the call and I used no extra init. My modem is also connected to the jack with nothing else connected to the line. I have 2 lines in my house.

I'm not real good with the USR modems but the Freq Level curve doesn't look promising to me. I'd suspect you line to be borderline 56k capable.

Might try disabling 56k (X2 & V.90) and see how the connection goes.

Try using S32=98 in the Extra Settings.
