I have installed Windows NT 4.0 workstation w/sp6a. I have installed USR 5699 56k internal modem w/software. I verified that the modem was dialing out using Phone Dialer and Hyper Terminal. I try to install Dial-Up Networking and it does not recognized the installed modem. It sees a "Standard Modem" but won't even install that. How do I get DUN to install properly?

I have already looked there but it won't help because DUN won't install without recognizing the modem. Since it won't recognize the modem that IS installed and it won't install with a "Standard Modem" DUN just doesn't work at all. I have tried a number of times and different ways to install DUN and it won't install.

I used the help wizard but couldn't find anything that helped. Those 3 Microsoft articles were the closest I've come to helping with the problem. After I started the Telephony service (which was on manual) I tried installing RAS again. It will not recognize the modem driver (the one I used to install the modem) as valid hardware information. The stardard modem will still not install.

Well, there's a 5699 and a 5699A, might verify that you have the correct drivers for your modem.

Might also check to see if there's a setup.exe in with the modem drivers, if so then uninstall the modem (should be an uninstaller listed in Add/Remove Programs) and use the setup.exe to install the modem.
