windows ME detects it as a gameport joystick! and when i try to install it manually the only 3COM {USR not listed at all} modems listed are 3 ISDN{europe}. HELLLLLPPP!!

Try running the setup.exe that's included with the drivers.

ive tried that but when i click setup.exe i get a notice from windows that the program has performed an illegal operation. this happens on 2 separate computers, one has win ME and the other win 98SE.

I have no idea what any of that means...

I'm really not that good with the USR modems.

Since the drivers are also for NT the setup.exe may be for NT only.

Might try manually installing the modem in Add New Hardware and instead of selecting Modems, select Other Devices and then click 'Have Disk' and point to the disk or folder containing the modem drivers.

ok well as if by magic{and 2 days time!} win ME has suddenly decided to recognize the modem on its own as its supposed to. the funny thing is that i hadnt done anything new. i suppose the OS recovered from hangover. the modem is working fine and im getting very good response from it. thanks for your help Bob and id recommend this modem to anyone.
