I have a new Ext USR 56K data/fax modem. I have an intermittent connection problem. I can connect say 25% of the time I try. The other times the modem sounds like it is "handshaking" with the Dial-up server and then it makes an alarm sound and comes back with a message saying that the server didn't answer. I check the modem logs and I see error messaged about an "Unrecognized Response". My ISP has been having routing issues, and other problems recently. Does this sound like an ISP issue to anyone?

Thanks,

Matt

If your ISP is having problems then yes, it could be causing your problem.

Might post your modem log.

Also, after a failed connection attempt, get the ati6i11 data in Hyperterminal to see why the modem failed to connect.

See http://modemsite.com/56k/x2-hyperterm.htm for setting up Hyperterminal.

Also see http://modemsite.com/56k/diag3com.htm

Might also check your DUN setup, see http://modemsite.com/56k/connectoid.htm

I believe my DUN settings are fine. I went over them with my ISP.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Would like to see ALL of the modem log.

Common error with Win2k and ME. The unrecognized response is in response to the AT#UD command sent to the modem by DUN, the modems sends the correct responses but Windows doesn't recognize what the modem is saying because these responses are missing from the modem's .inf file. Doesn't affect the modem's performance and it's nothing to worry about.

...Huh? Sorry, disregard stuff about Hosts files and winsock, been so many places today that I don't know where I'm at...
