I recently upgraded my MB,vid card, cpu,case to a
ASUS7100 series MB with 1.2mb athlon, Asus7100 vid card, My old machine was ATX case, Abit LX6 MB, pentiumII 233 mhz, 3d vid card, etc.
Problem is; My USR external modem will get 48k to 49k
connects when connected to the old machine. It will
get only 26,6 to 40k connects on the new machine, and
the connects over 28k are dead with no throughput.
The modem never moved, phone line and wall wart never
disconnected, only computer end of serial cable plugged
into whichever tower I'm testing. Modem logs show that
the new machine has 3Com568603.inf for the inf path.
The old machine shows 00568603.inf for the inf path.
I don't seem to be able to make the new machine use the
same driver. Any time I try to upgrade to the same as
on my old machine, the new machine puts the one it wants in right after my attempt. I have now idea even
if this might be the problem, but it's starting to drive me crazy. I can send you what ever logs, diags,
etc that you want. On the comparison of diagnostics
the line levels look the same when either computer is
connected to the modem, just the new one will get
crappy connects from it. A quick check of the logs look like both are using the same init strings.

Make sure your port speed on connectoid is 57.6k or 115.2k
Make test call with Hyperterminal -

Ok connectoid is set for 115k operation
Hyperterminal tests with new machine show
slow crappy connects that seldom excede
33k, and old machine with same modem
connects are usually 48K.
So, now what?
