pauldog Tl Posts: 231 USA | Posted - 11/8/2001 2:15:29 PM Anybody worked with this one? (It's an internal ISA) It's supposed to be a 33.6 Sportster, but I can't find reference to it, or figure out if it's flashable to 56K. |
Bob Starnes Tl Posts: 4360 USA | Posted - 11/8/2001 7:42:09 PM Can't find much on it either but I believe the driver (.inf file) for it is here: ftp://ftp.usr.com/usr/dl15/mdmusrv.inf |
pauldog Tl Posts: 231 USA | Posted - 11/8/2001 7:48:43 PM So you're saying it's a voice modem (the "v" in the INF file name)? What indicates that? |
Bob Starnes Tl Posts: 4360 USA | Posted - 11/8/2001 7:56:29 PM Don't really know, that was just the closest thing I saw, I could be wrong. Only info I could find is basically what you already have: Guess it could just as easily be this driver: Edited by - Bob Starnes on 11/8/01 8:07:22 PM |
pauldog Tl Posts: 231 USA | Posted - 11/8/2001 9:40:41 PM At any rate, it doesn't work. It's in my only ISA slot, where I've successfully installed USR and Lucent modems before. On this one, the Diagnostics say "Can't Open Port." I just got it used on eBay, hoping to be able to flash it to 56K, but I have a feeling it's too old. It also has DIP switches, and I can't find documentation on them. And it only has one jumper, to set the IRQ, where other USR's I've seen have one jumper for IRQ and one for choosing the COM port. Bob, where did you find the reference you mentioned? I couldn't find either "27600" or "27603" mentioned at the USR site, with or without the leading zeroes. |
Bob Starnes Tl Posts: 4360 USA | Posted - 11/8/2001 10:01:48 PM One of my main resources for IDing modem is the Linux modem database on Rob Clark's site: http://www.idir.net/~gromitkc/20010604b.html |
pauldog Tl Posts: 231 USA | Posted - 11/9/2001 2:08:30 PM Actually, I don't think it's a voice modem because it has no audio plugs, just the two phone plugs. |
Bob Starnes Tl Posts: 4360 USA | Posted - 11/9/2001 5:32:20 PM I was just reaching, could it possibly be an early internal USR Courier modem? Think the Couriers were the only ones with DIP switches, again I could be wrong since I'm not that good with the USR modems. |
pauldog Tl Posts: 231 USA | Posted - 11/11/2001 1:08:18 PM Here's the answer to the mystery. It was listed on eBay as a 33.6, which is why I assumed it was. USR customer service just wrote back to me (and pretty quickly too, believe it or not!) to say that it's a 14.4. That explains why I couldn't find it listed anywhere on the Internet, including modemsite.com. Sorry to take up your time with a boat anchor, but I didn't know. |

pauldog Tl Posts: 231 USA | Posted - 11/11/2001 3:19:17 PM Jeez, $50! My case may have been an honest mistake. The guy sells pulls from PC's he works on, and he offered to exchange it for what it was supposed to be. And I only paid maybe $10 for it, including shipping. Now I'll have to pay for the postage to return it, if I decide to take him up on the offer. |
pauldog Tl Posts: 231 USA | Posted - 12/9/2001 12:32:16 PM Believe it or not, I returned this modem to the seller in Canada, and he replaced it with a 28.8/33.6 USR Winmodem: |
