I have an internal Sportster 56k Voice Win modem (Dell OEM) which worked perfectly at 28.8k. Stupidly I used the 3COM Wizard to "upgrade". Since then the connection, albeit ranging from 33k to 38k, is hopelessly unreliable, disconnecting after a few minutes or even seconds.VERY FRUSTRATING (and expensive!). From what I can see of the error messages they mention " unable to retrain". Not being skilled at interrogating and diagnosing the modem I am at a loss how to proceed. I'd even settle for removing the upgrade if possible.
Any help much appreciated

I'm surprised you even found an upgrade for an OEM modem from 3Comm. Might try this in extra settings under modem properties:

S15=128S32=34

Disabling 56k will probably result in better connection. See www.808news.com/56k/trouble2.htm

Since you have Winmodem and driver is only software files on your hd, you may have old driver and be able to revert to it.

I would check performance w/ the new driver calling other ISPs first - http://808news.com/56k/trouble4.htm

Aloha,
Richard
