Seems only the NT Platforms do this - YOU CAN DO THIS:
Make sure modem is on BEFORE BOOTUP - If modem is listed but it's indicated as not present, do NOT UNINSTALL - just click to ADD and DETECT MODEM - You should get message "Windows did not find new modem .."
now select BACK and your modem should be listed as present! G'Luck!
