While connected it just stops working. The "bytes received" counter zooms. The only solution I have found is to redial. I use W98 (1st) on a 1 gig P3 with abit VH6-II mobo. I limit connect speed to 26.4 and have tried disable v42 and flex. I have also reinstalled all communications (W98) and tried a different 5610A modem with the most recent .inf from the usr web site.The problem happens with two different isp's but using the same uunet pop. Any help/ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Most likely a DUN or browser problem if the modem remains connected but you just can't browse or download anything.

Might check for any applications that automatically seek online upgrades and disable them.

Thanks for the reply. The problem occurs when browsing, in icq and when online gaming. There are NO applications seeking updates. I'm not sure what you mean by a dun problem.

DUN = Dial-Up Networking.

When you stated that "The "bytes received" counter zooms", is there any modem activity (does the modem lights in the system tray flash a lot or stay lit)?

Some applications like Windows Update, RealPlayer, etc can automatically seek updates when you're on the internet, if you have any such application you might try disabling the auto-update feature.

The modem lights stay dark except for an occasional flash.

Thanks Richard. I was fairly certain the problem was at the pop. This gives me the means to prove it to the isp's.

I have had the same problem with this modem over the past year and a half. I fly cfs2 online and would notice everyone would go from like 4 green (good) to 1 red (bad) for about 10 seconds every so often. Well over the last 2 months those lags turned into disconnects and I was ready to ditch the modem when I remebered a post I read on here about 4 months ago about some guy who installed a RF Filter and it solved his problems. Well I was kinda reaching for straws myself and I bought one figuring if it doesn't work I'll just take it back. Well to my suprise I have been online over 30 hours with only 1 disconnect and I never see anymore 1 red in gaming room. I am no expert at this kind of stuff but if it works it works.

I would like for Richard or Bob to post something in here to tell me whats up with this.
