pauldog Tl Posts: 231 USA | Posted - 12/7/2001 4:21:50 PM I'm thinking of buying yet another used modem - this one is a 56K model #00178400 Sportster external. The seller says that there's static unless the phone plug is positioned in the jack just right. Is this likely to be something I can fix by pulling a bit on the springy wires in the modem's phone jack, or is it a bigger problem? |

Bob Starnes Tl Posts: 4360 USA | Posted - 12/7/2001 9:27:05 PM Sounds like an easy fix'rupper as long as you don't have to replace the line jack. Bit of scrapping to clean the pins, a little pin re-alignment and quick check of the solder joint's should do it. |

It hasn't been that long since I've wielded a soldering iron. And it comes with the AC adapter and serial cable, and it's an older model than the ones that have static noise problems out of the box. I can probably nab it for $10 or so. |
