I have an external USR 56K modem. I have a Linux OS
(Red Hat version 6.2. I use minicom to do setup and
command the modem to dial out to my ISP. I am able
to connect and login. The response is
"Entering PPP Session"
IP address is 63.211.246.126
MTU is 1500
~y}#.!}!} }7} } } } } }'}"} "

I then try bring up Netscape, hoping that it will
take the connection. It doesn't. Finally after a minute
or so it says "NO CARRIER".
What do I need to do to get Netscape to take the connection? Or is it that I am not getting properly connected to the ISP's server?

Don't think the minicom does PPP connections, the minicom is just a terminal application. The "garbled noise" you're seeing is the PPP protocols.

Might check in a Linux newsgroup or forum for how to properly setup Linux for an internet connection.
