I have an internal USR Modem product id 00568703.. I installed Windows Xp which automatically found drivers for the modem.. The device menager says the modem is functioning properly, but when I attempt to dial out I get an internal modem failure.. I know there is nothing wrong with the modem since I am using it now through windows 98.. Any Suggestions or solutions to thismost aggravating problem?

I do not believe so but I will check. I spoke to USR Tech Support who told me to remove all the jumpers from the modem to force it into PNP mode, which I did. But still nothing. I can't even query the modem. I also tried changing the com port on the modem to COM Port 2 to see if that would help.. And I was told that Com Port 2 was in use.. How do I find out what is on COM Port 2?

The most devilish thing about this is that the Device Manager happily declares that that "This device (the modem" is working properly".

I am on the verge of buying a new modem.

005687-03 is installed in Windows 2000 by setting jumpers, the jumpers must be set for COM 2 IRQ 3. PnP Mode only.

It may be listed as having as having basic functionality under XP.. But it does not. I don't know.. I feel as though I have exhausted the options that my limited modem knowledge offers me.

If you have a Com2 listed in the Device Manager then that's most likely Serial Port 2 in the BIOS Setup. Disable Serial Port 2 in the BIOS Setup under 'Intergrated Peripherals' and then try installing the modem.
