I have 2 DOS applications and they cannot seem to detect the modem. I have no problems with Windows ME, but in Windows XP, the DOS programs just can't see the modem. The programs are able to handle non-standard IRQs and I/O addresses, so I have set that up correctly. But I just can't get it to work.

Any ideas?

thanks,
Peter

Charles,
I'm not sure I follow. There is no DOS tab in Device Manager that I can see. The only tabs on the modem are General, Driver, Resources, Modem, Diagnostics, Power Management, and Advanced.

Are you saying that you couldn't solve the problem and had to dual boot between Dos and Win2000?

thanks,
Peter

So, do you have any idea how to fix it? Is it a problem with WinXP?

A DOS-based communications app may or may not work with XP.

XP creates a virtual DOS machine for DOS apps.

The IRQ/IO assignments for modem in VDM may be different than those for XP - and if modem is PCI, may or may not work at all in DOS.

Try going to a command promt (Run -> Cmd ) and issue
mode
command - is modem COM port listed?
If it is, try setting com port -
mode COMx:9600,n,8,1
then, echo a command to modem like
echo ATD3333333 >COMx:

If modem 'works', then it may work in at least some DOS apps under XP.

Aloha,
Richard

Thanks. That helps. The mode command only lists COM1, which is my unused serial port. I doesn't list COM3, which is the internal modem. I suspect that DOS will only see the device if it uses one of the 'standard' address. And since I can't figure out how to change the IRQ and I/O address in WinXP like I could in WinME, that's what's screwing me up.
