Despite the modem manual sayingit is v90 compatible, and my ISP also supporting v90, all i can get is 31,200 kbps. I have checked so many sotes for updates / patches - some say its updateable but won't update it (the 3com internet update wizard), and others say its already up-to-date. It's not a phone line / ISP issue since i can dial up at around 48,000 kbps on a laptop using the same phone-line etc. Any ideas, its driving me mad... cheers |
v.Richard Tl Posts: 6222 USA | Posted - 7/4/2000 12:34:02 PM Texas Instruments doesn't make modems. USR & some others use TI chipsets. So, the 1st step would be to determine whether you are using USR-supplied firmware, or something else. Aloha, |

v.Richard Tl Posts: 6222 USA | Posted - 7/14/2000 10:33:16 AM I think you have a USR/OEM modem. The 00178600 in product ID would make be believe you have an OEM version of USR 1786-00. Did you check the OEM support section of the 3Com site for upgrade? (There's a link to that section at www.808news.com/56k/links.htm ) However, you may not have a 56k-compatible line. The next step is to check for more than 1 a/d conversion: Aloha, |
dtm_bs Tl Posts: 5 United Kingdom | Posted - 7/15/2000 5:12:37 PM The OEM links just send me to the update wizard which, when run, says the modem is already upgraded with the latest code. I am running an internal modem from the same box which consistently connects @ 42.6 kbps. any thoughts? |
v.Richard Tl Posts: 6222 USA | Posted - 7/16/2000 12:41:48 PM Can you post the results of ati6i11y11 after a connect? www.808news.com/56k/diag3com.htm Aloha, |
dtm_bs Tl Posts: 5 United Kingdom | Posted - 7/18/2000 7:37:38 AM Richard, as req'd: FM-56SA Data60Fax Voice 12/12 Link Diagnostics... Modulation V.34+

v.Richard Tl Posts: 6222 USA | Posted - 7/19/2000 9:32:11 AM The y11 freq response would indicate you do NOT have more than 1 a/d conversion and your line should support 56k connects; However, there may be something unusual or improperly detected by your modem - my guess would be DLC (digital loop carrier).... I assume you have tried other access #s and cannot get a better connect no matter what # you dial? Aloha, |
dtm_bs Tl Posts: 5 United Kingdom | Posted - 7/19/2000 11:46:31 AM yeh - it just won't go > 31,200 but another (internal) modem i also use on the same phone line happily connects @ 42,600 bps?! dan |
