spandita Tl Posts: 4 | Posted - 1/7/2002 3:39:31 PM I have a US robotics sportster 56 k x2,internal modem, model 0460. my problems started when I installed Oracle 8i on my computer. Initially the modem started disconnecting easily and then would not connect at all.I checked everything:no resource conflicts, IRQ problems, diagnostics in the modem ( i was getting the message that the port is already open). I removed the modem software and restarted the computer , the computer recognized the modem and installed the software and the modem connected but soon the same problem came up again. When I removed the modem software and reatarted the computer again, the computer would not recognize the modem at all. I reformatted my hard drive and the modem came up and running again but after a few days the problem recurred. Initially it would not connect. I removed the modem software and reatrted the computer again but now the computer is unable to recognize the modem at all now inspite of my repaeted attempts. I physically removed the modem from its ISA slot and inserted it firmly again but nothing happened. Please help |

Bob Starnes Tl Posts: 4360 USA | Posted - 1/8/2002 10:15:17 PM What com port/IRQ is the modem on? Check the Startup folder for any apps that may have access to the modem or com port.

spandita Tl Posts: 4 | Posted - 1/13/2002 9:24:07 AM rightnow the computer is not detecting modem at all.even though it does intermitently if i remove the modem from the device manager and restart the computer .yes my modem does have jumpers and settings for com/IRQ ports and there is no conflict in the device manager. |
v.Richard Tl Posts: 6222 USA | Posted - 1/13/2002 12:00:01 PM What COM port does the modem install on? What are the resources (IRQ & I/O) for the port? Your computer's BIOS: Check the setup of built-in COM port / and/or PnP settings; to make things easy to start with, you could disable any built-in COM ports which would eliminate possibility of conflict there. Aloha, |
spandita Tl Posts: 4 | Posted - 1/16/2002 4:10:25 PM it usually installs on com1 and the resources are 3F8/IRQ4. the pnp settings are enabled. there is right now no conflict as the computer is not detecting the modem at all. |
Bob Starnes Tl Posts: 4360 USA | Posted - 1/16/2002 9:13:22 PM If the modem is on Com1 then you should have Serial Port 1 disabled in the BIOS Setup. |
