Hi,
I've just bought a USR 64-245630-02 56k external modem here in Germany. I just went to USR homepage and found out that there are all kinds of different codes for modems which all look alike. I already found out that the 56k faxmodems all seem to have xx5630-xx in their number, but what are the other numbers for? They are beginning with 81-xx CP-xx etc. Can anyone tell me what this means? Can I for example distinguish what part of the number means OEM and what retail?

I'm interested because my modem is nowhere listed on Germany's USR site at all despite the fact that the manuel it came with says it supports V.90 as well as V.92.

Can anyone clear this whole mess with those numbers up??

I think the last 2 digits are the product rev - there can be different firmware flash for products with differing last 2 digits;

I think the first 2 digits are country and/or OEM related.

I, too, find USR (and most other vendor) product numbers very confusing....

Aloha,
Richard
